In the summer of 2021, 98% of the golf course will be mowed by machines that run on electricity, environmentally friendly energy. We only need to mow with machines that use fossil fuels at complex areas, for example on steep slopes around water.

Brautarholt Golf Club recently purchased an electric mower for greens and tees. The new machine is added to a group of 30 autonomous mowing robots that also run on electricity and have taken care of mowing on the fairways.

As far as we know, Brautarholt is the only golf course in the world that has taken such a big step in the use of environmentally friendly energy when mowing. The new green mower is a Toro Greensmaster eTriFlex 3370 and is the flagship of the manufacturer Toro. The historic St Andrews Golf Course recently announced that the same machine is being put into use, so we are in good company in this regard On the fairways we have mowing robots from Husqvarna.

In general, golf courses in Iceland are among the most environmentally friendly in the world. There is little use of toxins here and much less need for irrigation than in many other countries. In fact, it is almost only in northwestern Europe that grass naturally stays green all summer long. Elsewhere in the world, all mowed areas need to be watered almost daily, with associated costs and strain on water management.

The next time coats and umbrellas are pulled out of the golf bag, it is good to remember that the rain is extremely environmentally friendly. With the combination of renewable energy during mowing and natural irrigation, it seems safe to call Brautarholt the most environmentally friendly golf course in the world!
